Wellness Care/Vaccines:

Generation Pet Veterinary Clinic believes in the importance of preventing disease. Vaccinations for various diseases including rabies, and wellness screenings such as Heartworm tests, fecal exams, and Felv/FIV tests for pets are very important. Yearly exams are emphasized to note any changes from the previous year. It is true that pets age faster than people, so a year’s time can sometimes equal seven years in a pet’s aging. As pets enter their senior years, twice yearly exams may be recommended. We recommend all pets be on heartworm prevention every month. Fleas are also a health issue where we live, so we have many options for flea and tick prevention.

Dentistry/Anesthesia:

We perform dental cleanings, extractions if needed, and certain oral surgeries. Dental cleaning is done with an ultrasonic scaler and the teeth are then polished. All surgery and dental patients are closely monitored while under anesthesia using EKG’s, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, etc. We perform preanesthetic blood work. We strive to use safe anesthetic protocols. If you have any concerns regarding anesthesia, or if your pet has had problems in the past while under anesthesia, please inform us so we can discuss these issues with you.

Surgical Services:

We perform many surgical procedures at Generation Pet Veterinary Clinic. A short list of procedures offered are: spays and neuters, declaws, tumor removals and lumpectomies, biopsies, bladder surgeries, wound repairs, fracture repairs (depending on site and severity), amputations, ear hematoma repairs, hernia repairs, etc. If your pet is in need of a surgical procedure, please call the clinic and we will discuss the procedure with you and recommend treatment plan options. We strive to minimize patient discomfort at all times.

Internal Medicine:

Pets can suffer from many internal medical problems similar to people. Such diseases include diabetes, hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism, adrenal diseases, autoimmune diseases, kidney disease, liver disease, etc. Many of these problems require blood tests, urine tests, radiographs, etc. to diagnose. Generation Pet Veterinary Clinic has both in-house and outside laboratory capabilities. We can discuss your pet’s symptoms and test results on an individual basis. We have access to many specialists in town if your pet requires additional specialty tests to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Cancer Treatments and Therapies:

Dr. McCann has a special interest in cancer treatment and therapies. She has had many of her own pets develop cancer over the years and knows first hand the emotions from diagnosis, treatment decisions, and quality of life aspects of cancer therapy. Dr. McCann stays current on state of the art oncology, and approaches therapy with the positive knowledge that remission is an attainable goal in many cases. Our clients are presented with an accurate prognosis and all treatment options, including referral to the best resources in the Houston area if that is what's best for your pet. Summerwood Veterinary Clinic has chemotherapy capabilities. If you are concerned about cancer or your pet has recently been diagnosed and you have questions, please call to schedule an appointment.

Dermatology and Allergy Testing and Treatments:

Pets can have many skin issues. Unfortunately, allergies in pets are often exhibited in their skin. If your pet is itching more often than they should, or you notice anything unusual about your pet’s skin, please call to set up a consultation and examination. Allergies are as common in pets as they are in people in the Gulf Coast environment. We would love to help with any of your pet’s skin issues. We also offer an extensive line of flea products.

Geriatric and Arthritic Care:

Pets are living longer. That’s a good thing. At Generation Pet Veterinary Clinic old age is not considered a disease, but as with people, aging pets may suffer from arthritis, decreased vision and hearing, or other age related changes. Fortunately, we have many ways to help our aging friends. Many products have become available to help with arthritis. If your pet is slowing down, appearing “stiffer” on rising, or just not able to run or exercise like they used to do, please call us. We would like to help.

Prescription Diets and Nutritional Counseling:

Just as important as vaccinations, proper nutrition can help prevent a host of diseases. Over the last several decades, many improvements have been made in the nutritional science of pet foods. Stage of life diets (puppy/kitten, adult, and senior diets) as well as diets designed for special health conditions (diabetes, kidney disease, obesity, food allergies, arthritis, etc.) have been developed that increase the quality of life for our pets. If your pet has special nutritional needs, we would love the opportunity to discuss them with you.

Laser treatment for pet pain

Laser Therapy:

Laser therapy can significantly reduce healing time. Pet owners often prefer a progressive, non-invasive therapy to a drug regimen for the treatment of chronic pain. K- Laser therapy provides that solution. Traumatic skin injuries and surgical incisions benefit greatly from laser intervention. Musculoskeletal injuries and orthopedic surgeries often require additional rehabilitation solutions. Laser therapy provides non-invasive remedies for quicker recovery. There is no patient sedation or restraint required and the experience is usually pleasant and comforting to the animal. Most pets do not need to have their hair clipped either. Although improvement is often seen after the first visit, most patients require several treatments (3 to 8) for greatest benefit. For most conditions, we recommend a multi-visit treatment plan. Treatments vary in length, but most sites require 2 to 8 minutes. A majority of patients exhibit greater comfort and mobility within 12 to 24 hours after a laser treatment.

Microchip Identification:

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, sometimes our pets become separated from us. Collars and tags can be lost. Microchipping is one more way to help insure your pet can be located. The chips have an individual ID number unique to your pet. If your pet is missing and ends up at a shelter or veterinary clinic, the pet will be scanned for a microchip. If one is found, the ID number will identify your pet  through the Home Again website. Both you, and Generation Pet Veterinary clinic can be contacted through the Home Again site, in order to reunite you and your pet as quickly as possible.
